ND SatCom Receives `Seventh Annual Duke's Choice Award' for Satellite Communication Management Software
Friedrichshafen (Germany), San Francisco (USA), July 28, 2009 – ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company, announced that it received the ‘Seventh Annual Duke’s Choice Award’ in the category ‘Java Technology in Network Solution’ for its Satellite Communication Management Software. The latest edition of this software is used for the German Armed Forces SATCOMBw Step 2 project. ND SatCom had already developed the forerunner model for SATCOMBw Step 1 and the Dutch Armed Forces. The Duke's Choice Awards recognize the year’s most influential Java technology-based applications submitted by developers and companies from around the world.
To identify the award recipients, the Duke's Choice awards committee invites Java community members to nominate the best and most innovative use of Java technology for recognition. The winners are chosen by James Gosling, Vice President of Sun Microsystems, Inc. and creator of the Java programming language, and a leadership team based on the creativity of the Java technology-based applications and services.
The ND SatCom Satellite Communication Management Software ensures complete and easy handling in planning and managing satellite communication networks. A crucial element for Sun’s commendation was the user benefit of the software tool with a visually appealing GUI (Graphical User Interface) and intuitive user navigation, which enable the user to quickly capture the software. To fulfil different tasks, the user no longer jumps between different applications, but uses a fully integrated workflow in one modular application. In particular, when monitoring several ground stations at the same time, this workflow optimally uses available system resources and seamlessly bridges the exchange of data between different tasks.
“We are delighted that the known father of Java, James Gosling, and the international Java community recognize our Satellite Communication Management Software with the Duke’s Choice Award”, says Johann Pohany, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ND SatCom. “A big thank you to our R&D team for their innovative and customer-oriented ideas and efforts.”
